Diocesan Corporate Members are unlike the other individual members of an Academy Trust in that they are not appointed personally as a Member. They are there specifically appointed to represent LDBE and are therefore obliged to follow directions from DLET.

The DCM will be appointed by DLET and will receive training and support so that the DCM can provide expertise, support and challenge relating to the preservation and development of the religious character of Church Academies in the academy trust.

Members have a general duty to exercise their powers, to further the academy trust’s charitable purposes, which in the majority of trusts is ‘to advance for the public benefit education in the United Kingdom’ . In trusts which include Church academies, Members must also ensure that the religious character of the Church academy is preserved and developed as part of ensuring the charitable objects of the trust are met. The DCM will be appointed by DLET and will receive training and support so that the DCM can provide expertise, support and challenge relating to the preservation and development of the religious character of Church Academies in the academy trust.
