The revised Church of England Statement of Entitlement for RE (September 2026) builds on existing expectations while introducing and strengthening a number of important areas. These include:
- engaging meaningfully and critically with learning that helps pupils make sense of the multi-religious and multi-secular world in which they live;
- understanding Christianity as a diverse global living faith, including engagement with biblical texts and key sources of authority;
- developing knowledge and understanding of religious and non-religious worldviews
- developing disciplinary knowledge that equips pupils to become religiously literate;
- enabling pupils to explore their personal worldviews and their own ways of living, believing and thinking
Led by the Christian Distinctiveness Adviser team, this collaborative day will provide input and dedicated time for school and RE leaders to explore the revised aims and expectations, reflect on the impact of their leadership of RE, and consider what these developments mean for curriculum and classroom practice. Leaders will explore practical ways to equip, resource and support teachers in fulfilling the expectations of the Statement of Entitlement, while working with colleagues to consider the central question: How does high-quality RE, shaped by our Christian vision, enable every pupil to flourish?
